Pin the Feather on Burdette

Burdette

What You'll Need:

  • Burdette poster pieces and feathers (available as a PDF)
  • scissors
  • tape
  • scarf or blindfold

How to Prepare:

  1. Print out all four pieces of the Burdette poster and the sheet of feathers.
  2. Cut out enough feathers for each child to have one. (You may need to print or copy additional pages of feathers.) Write a different player's name on each feather.
  3. Tape together the poster pieces.
  4. Tape the poster to the wall at a good height for your guests.
  5. Put a piece of double-sided tape, or a piece of regular tape rolled with the sticky-side out, on the back of each feather.

How to Play:

  1. Point out to everyone where Burdette is missing a feather.
  2. For each turn, place the player approximately three feet from the poster.
  3. Hand the player his or her feather.
  4. Blindfold the player and help him or her gently spin around three times. (You may want to skip this step with younger children.)
  5. Instruct the player to walk toward the poster and try to place Burdette's feather in the right spot. (Guide players who are headed off course back in the right direction.)
  6. After everyone has had a turn, the player whose feather is closest to the correct spot wins!

Fun Fact!

Burdette isn't the only bird who loses her feathers. Birds' feathers get worn out once or twice a year and are replaced with new ones. This process is called "molting."
