Wartz's Insect Scavenger Hunt

Wartz

What You'll Need:

  • insect gameboards and insect cards (available as a PDF)
  • scissors
  • tape

How to Prepare:

  1. Print out enough insect gameboards and insect cards so you have one set for each participant or team. (Depending on the age and number of guests at the party, this game can be played individually or in two- or three-person teams.)
  2. Cut out the cards and all of the insects. Place tape on the back of each insect (double-sided tape or regular tape rolled with the sticky-side out) and hide them around the party area. Based on the age of the guests, you may want to put some in plain sight and hide others so that they are camouflaged.
How to Play:
  1. Give each player or team an insect gameboards. Point out to them the different insects that are on the gameboard.
  2. Tell them that those insects are hidden throughout the room or area and their goal is to find one of each insect. Remind them that there are multiple copies of each insect but they only want to take one of each, i.e., one ant, one bee, and one grasshopper. As they find each insect that they need, they should pick it up and stick it in the appropriate box on their chart.
  3. The game ends when one player or team has found all of the insects on their chart. Alternatively, you may wish to set a time limit for the game and the player/team with the most insects at the end of the time frame wins.

Fun Fact!

Did you know that bees dance? A bee who has found a good food source will come back to the hive and do a dance for the other bees. Based on the kind of movements the bee does and how quickly the bee moves, the other bees know where to find the food!
