Groove to Your Own Move
What You'll Need:
- Music and some room to move!
How to Play:
- One child starts by inventing and demonstrating a movement. That child calls someone else by name to follow that move. Then the person who was called starts his own move and everyone who has already been called copies the new move. The activity continues until everyone has been called into the circle and is doing the same move. Encourage children to be silly and remind participants that they are welcome to adapt the moves they see to their own physical abilities.
- Ask the children to alternate large-motor and fine-motor movement, i.e., if the first child did a large-motor movement (e.g., marching in place), then the next child should make up a fine-motor movement (e.g., tracing one hand with the forefinger of the opposite hand).
