Episode 304: Butterfly Diaries

Mimi and her friends explore a Minnesota milkweed patch, counting monarchs to help scientists track the butterfly population. These SciGirls then raise monarch caterpillars, and use a video diary to capture their metamorphosis into butterflies.

Learning Goals: Learn that monarchs have different life stages – egg, larva, pupa, adult. Understand that monarch caterpillars go through different periods in their development when they shed their skin and get larger and it’s possible to identify these periods when observing them. Learn that monarch caterpillars eat different types of milkweed plants.


Episode 304: Diario de una Mariposa

Mimi y sus amigas exploran una zona de algodoncillo en Minnesota y cuentan las monarcas para ayudar a los científicos a dar seguimiento a la población de mariposas. Estas SciGirls crían orugas de mariposas y usan un diario en video para capturar su metamorfósis en mariposas.

Objetivos de Aprendizaje: Aprender que las mariposas monarca tienen distintas etapas de vida– huevo, larva, crisálida, adulto. Entender que orugas monarcas pasan por períodos diferentes en su desarrollo cuando mudan la piel y crecen, y es posible identificar estos períodos al observarlas.
