I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream for Ice Cream

Posted by Kristen on July 9, 2009 at 6:25 AM in Raising Boys

049.JPGSomething happened along the way and now I'm stuck in this crazy place. Three times in a row I promised my kids dessert if they ate all their dinner. Now they are saying crazy things like "can I have a popsicle?" After breakfast.

Um, no. You can't have a popsicle after breakfast. I realize it is summer but a mom has to have her limits. And a chocolate marshmallow ice cream in a waffle cone? Definitely not. Ok, maybe this once.

You are a slacker mom during the summer too, right?

Ice cream after breakfast is better than ice cream for breakfast.

once upon a time there was a little girl and round about august that little girl's mommy said, "daughter, please brush your teeth," to which the daughter replied, indignantly: "in the SUMMER?!"

Honestly, I think I'm a slacker mom all year long. My kid eats an alarmingly large quantity of chocolate chip cookies. Sometimes she actually eats more healthy food in the summer because we have a small garden and so I send her outside to pick berries and pull carrots. Although it's still sort of slacker-ish because it's a way to get her out of my hair sometimes. ;)

Yeah, *ahem*, I don't know ANY small people who think they should get a popsicle chaser after breakfast around these parts and usually gets it most mornings because it keeps said almost 3 year old entertained for another 15 minutes. Ha ha ha.

I am in the right line, right? This line is for the slacker parenting award of the year, yes?!!!!

I'm hoping (praying, finger crossing, what have you) that we will somehow magically become better at my household when preschool is in session this fall. I'm not holding my breath though. LOL.

Am I a slacker mom in the summer....ABSOLUTELY! I think we've had ice cream every day for a week now - all times of the day! But isn't that half the fun of summer, getting to do the stuff you don't usually get to do! By the way, I'm always up for an extra treat to indulge myself. Funny thing is, during the rest of the year, if I try to eat that stuff, my kids remind me that it isn't good for me and my doctor would be mad. So its yippee for me during summer because they let me slack off too!!

Why yes...I AM a slacker during the summer. How did you know?

And that ice cream & popsicle thing? It's a slippery slope, as evidenced by my four year helping himself to a fudge bar at about 10:30 this morning.
