Sodor I Spy

Challenge your engineer to become an investigator!

t7 Nothing breaks up a long journey like a fun game of I Spy. With a Thomas theme to the game, your engineer becomes a budding investigator! Encourage your engineer to stay on track and keep trying, even if he doesn’t guess correctly during his first few tries.

Time: As long as you want to play!

Number of players: 2

  • One player selects an object within his sightline and says, “I Spy something that is the color of Percy.” (This means the object is green.)
  • The other player looks around and tries to guess what the object is. If the guesser does not discover the item within 3 guesses, she then picks an item for the other person to find.
    • Clues may be based on the engine’s colors (e.g., Blue = Thomas, Edward or Gordon; Green = Percy or Henry; Red = James; Dark Green = Emily; Brown = Toby; Black = Diesel; Yellow = the color of Thomas’ #1.)
    • Clues may also be based on size (e.g., Big = Gordon, Small = Thomas or Percy) or shape (e.g., Round = Thomas’ face; Square = Toby’s face; Rectangular = the shape of Annie and Clarabel)

Take It Further

The great thing about the I Spy game is that it is so flexible! Try playing I Spy with letters (I Spy something that begins with a “B”) and help build phonemic awareness. Or try I Spy with rhymes (I Spy something that rhymes with “cat”) and hone auditory skills that will help your child with phonics. Happy Spying!
