Clifford

Clifford

CLIFFORD, his human Emily Elizabeth and his dog pals Cleo and T-Bone introduce children to gentle lessons about being part of a community, acceptance and resolving differences. Clifford's "every dog" kindness has made him and his book series enormously popular with parents and kids for almost 40 years.

Of course, Clifford wasn't always a big dog. As true fans know, he started out as the runt of the litter. Clifford's Puppy Days is a 25-episode prequel to Clifford The Big Red Dog, recounting Clifford's days as a very small puppy. The show features new friends and an exciting urban setting.

For ages 4 and up.

Series Goals

The series is based upon Clifford's 10 Big Ideas:
  • Share
  • Be Responsible
  • Be Truthful
  • Be Kind
  • Believe in Yourself
  • Be a Good Friend
  • Have Respect
  • Help Others
  • Work Together
  • Play Fair

Throughout the series, these 10 Big Ideas are introduced and reinforced by different characters in different stories. The repeated presentations of these ideas make the most of young children's need for and enjoyment of repetition.

Parent's FAQ

Q. How can Clifford help prepare my child for school?

A. The content in Clifford The Big Red Dog and Clifford's Puppy Days is designed to use age-appropriate storytelling to reinforce young children's growing social skills and to address the challenges children face in their daily lives, so that they become better prepared to learn in a school setting. Some issues addressed are:

  • Responding to feelings appropriately
  • Respecting others and resolving conflicts
  • Understanding that our actions make a difference
  • Respecting and appreciating diversity

Q. What are the programs' goals?

A. Both Clifford The Big Red Dog and Clifford's Puppy Days emphasize good citizenship and the importance of community. Through the character of Clifford, whose heart is as big as he is, children absorb gentle lessons about acceptance and inclusion. Clifford's stories also demonstrate an important lesson for children, which is that approaching the world with open hearts and minds brings many rewards.

Q. How can I build on the messages of each show?

A. Visit the activity section of the Clifford website to find activities that extend the messages of specific shows. Activities like the Pocket Full of Kindness will help your children develop empathy while Home-grown Self-esteem can show them how to feel good about themselves. Use Clifford printables to actively engage your child and reinforce the show's values.
