In this first clip associated with the Al Otro Lado lesson plan, Magdiel, a young man who lives in a fishing town called Sinaloa on the west coast of Mexico, writes and sings corridos, Mexican ballads that use music to tell stories. Students should think about what economic challenges Magdiel and his family face in Sinaloa. Ask students to compare how Magdiel's options for the future compare with their own.
