POV is marking the 40th anniversary of the publication of the Pentagon Papers with a special opportunity to watch The Most Dangerous Man in America: Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers online.
The film will be streamed on the POV website starting June 13, 2011, for two days. That date not only marks the day the documents were originally published in The New York Times, but also when the Nixon Library Presidential Library and Museum will release the now declassified documents.
In 1971, Daniel Ellsberg, a leading Vietnam War strategist, concludes that America’s role in the war is based on decades of lies. He leaks 7,000 pages of top-secret documents to The New York Times, a daring act of conscience that leads directly to Watergate, President Nixon’s resignation and the end of the Vietnam War.
