The Oscar®-nominated documentary If a Tree Falls: A Story of the Earth Liberation Front is now streaming online on the POV website for a limited time, and the uncut version of the film with plenty of DVD extras is available here.

If a Tree Falls: A Story of the Earth Liberation Front explores two of America’s most pressing issues — environmentalism and terrorism — by lifting the veil on a radical environmental group the FBI calls America’s “number one domestic terrorism threat.” Daniel McGowan, a former member of the Earth Liberation Front, faces life in prison for two multimillion-dollar arsons against Oregon timber companies. What turned this working-class kid from Queens into an eco-warrior? Marshall Curry (Oscar®-nominated Street Fight, POV 2005) provides a nuanced and provocative account that is part coming-of-age story, part cautionary tale and part cops-and-robbers thriller.

The film will be streaming on the POV website through March 4, 2012.

If a Tree Falls has been nominated in the Best Documentary Feature category in this year’s 2011 Academy Awards. The awards ceremony will take place on Sunday February 26, 2012. You can follow POV on Twitter, Facebook and this blog for documentary Oscar news.

I can’t resist saying that I am surprised by all these earth-conscious, otherwise seemingly health-conscious individuals smoking like fiends.

Its called addiction – usually fuelled by anxiety (about social existence?). What disturbs ME is all these supposedly open-minded, “alternative” thinking individuals who are as judgemental  - if not more –  than the the average right-wing conservative Joe. What is repulsive about them is that they actually think they are morally and intellectually superior.
