Congratulations to StoryCorps and NPR’s Morning Edition, whose “StoryCorps 9/11” series, featuring excerpts from interviews with survivors of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and victims’ relatives, has won a George Foster Peabody Award!
In addition to showcasing the interviews on Morning Edition, three moving stories — Always a Family, John and Joe, and She Was the One — were also made into short animated documentaries that premiered online on POV’s website.
Since 2005, StoryCorps has worked with the National September 11 Memorial & Museum to record more than 1,000 interviews with people affected by the events of 9/11. For the tenth anniversary of the attacks, StoryCorps paid tribute to Father Mychal Judge, NYC Fire Department Chaplain and the first confirmed death that day, in pieces that aired on Morning Edition. StoryCorps also produced an hour-long special with NPR titled “We Remember: StoryCorps Stories from 9/11.” StoryCorps stories were also selected for the National September 11 Memorial & Museum’s official app, which guides visitors through the site while honoring victims of the attacks.
