Dr. Shira Maguen, a staff psychologist at the San Francisco Veteran Affairs (VA) Medical Center describes PTSD as an anxiety disorder that may develop after an individual is exposed to one or more traumatic events.

The young soldiers featured in the documentary Where Soldiers Come From (POV 2011) face a variety of issues while trying to return and reintegrate into their community, from dealing with PTSD and traumatic brain injury to receiving education benefits for their service.

In commemoration of PTSD Awareness Day, learn ways you can get involved with veterans and educate your communities about the issues they face in returning to civilian life.

On this day we’re also excited to announce a new partnership between Where Soldiers Come From, The Bob Woodruff Foundation (BWF) and POV.

BWF says “Where Soldiers Come From tugs at all of the right emotions to rid any indifference to this ten-year war. After watching this film, communities will be compelled to take action to help returning veterans reintegrate and thrive.” The Bob Woodruff Foundation targets the challenges injured service members face when they return home wounded after combat to ensure they have successful futures.
