Michael Collins, director of Give Up Tomorrow, will be on the #docchat Twitter chat Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at 8 PM Eastern (5 PM Pacific), taking your questions about “cracking the legal documentary code.”
In Give Up Tomorrow, 19-year-old Paco LarraƱaga is sentenced to life in prison for rape and murder despite overwhelming evidence of his innocence. When LarraƱaga was sentenced to death in 2004, Collins, along with producer Marty Syjuco, were inspired to pored through transcripts and legal documents to find out what they could do to correct the injustice. And of course, Collins picked up a camera.
As the director recently told POV, “I think we’ve always believed in the power of documentary really to create social change on a big level.”
Ask the filmmaker a question by posting to Twitter with the hashtag #docchat.
