POV Wins International Documentary Association Award For Best Continuing Series
POV (Point of View) has won the International Documentary Association's 2009 IDA Award for Continuing Series, it was announced yesterday by the IDA in Los Angeles. The 2009 IDA Documentary Awards will take place on Friday, Dec. 4 at 8 PM at the Directors Guild of America in Los Angeles.
POV's "The Way We Get By" Special Airs on Veterans Day
The Way We Get By has its national broadcast premiere on the POV (Point of View) series on Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at 9 PM, in a special presentation on PBS. (Check local listings.) American television's longest-running independent documentary series, POV is the recipient of a Special Emmy for Excellence in Television Documentary Filmmaking.
POV Documentary "Inheritance" by James Moll Wins Emmy Award
James Moll's film Inheritance, which aired on the POV (Point of View) documentary series on PBS in 2008, won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Interview at the 30th Annual News & Documentary Emmy® Awards, presented Sept. 21 in New York. Accepting the award were Director/Producer/Editor James Moll, Producer Christopher Pavlick, Executive Producer Chris Malachowsky, film subject Helen Jonas and her daughter, Vivian Delman. PBS won six Emmys — more than any other network.
POV Receives Record-Setting 10 News & Documentary Emmy Award Nominations
POV (Point of View), public television's premier showcase for independent documentaries, has received a record-setting 10 nominations in the 30th Annual News & Documentary Emmy® Awards, announced July 14 by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS). The nominated POV films are (in alphabetical order): Ars Magna, The Ballad of Esequiel Hernández, Belarusian Waltz, In the Family, Inheritance (two nominations, including Best Documentary), The Judge and the General, Soldiers of Conscience, Traces of the Trade and Up the Yangtze. POV is the second most-nominated program after CBS News' 60 Minutes.
POV Founder Marc N. Weiss to Receive 2009 North Star Award
North Star Fund awards Marc N. Weiss, the founder of the POV series on PBS, with the 2009 North Star Award for his commitment to social justice. Marc will receive the North Star Award at North Star Fund's 30th Anniversary Community Gala on April 30, 2009 at Tribeca Rooftop. As a committed supporter of North Star Fund and advocate and producer of independent media, Marc has worked to give voice and power to unheard individuals and groups working for social justice.
POV Website Nominated for 2009 Webby Award
The POV Web site, www.pbs.org/pov, has been nominated for a 2009 Webby Award in the category of Movie and Film, it was announced Tuesday. Hailed as the "Oscars of the Internet," the Webby Film and Video Awards are the leading industry awards honoring original film and video premiering on the Internet. Winners will be announced on May 5, 2009 and honored at a ceremony in New York City on June 8.
