Cardone, I Just Ate Some

When I fry Cardone, I dip in egg whites and dredge in flour seasoned with salt and cayenne pepper, not too much. I also picked mine in my mom's backyard in upstate NY.

Weeds for Food

My Grandma was a first generation Sicilian American. As a child I remember her picking dandelions in the front yard to be used for a side dish. They had to be retrieved before they were ripe or flowering. Honestly, I never tried the dish because it was a weed to me.

The Modern Industrial Steak

In some ways your piece on the life of a pig reminds me of an article in the NYTimes Magazine by Michael Pollan, whose work I love, called "The Life of a Steer." He purchases a steer and follows it from ranch to factory farm to death... to find out how a modern, industrial steak is produced in America. You should see if you can get your hands on a copy.
