ELIZABETH ROYTE
Mindful Muckraker

Some know me as the author of The Tapir’s Morning Bath: Mysteries of the Tropical Rain Forest and the Scientists Who Are Trying to Solve Them. Named a New York Times Notable Book of the Year in 2001, Tapir is about the strange and wonderful world of scientists working at a biological research station on a tiny Panamanian island. You can read more about the book at Tapirsmorningbath.com.

I've also written about science and the environment for The New York Times Magazine, Harper’s, National Geographic, Outside, Smithsonian, The New Yorker, and other national magazines. I'm a former Alicia Patterson Foundation Fellow and my book about garbage will appear in July 2005, published by Little, Brown. Learn more about it at Garbageland.us.
