I'm the author of Can't Stop Won't Stop: a History of the Hip-Hop Generation, a book about the emergence of those of us born after the baby boomers. It's a cultural, social, and political history that spans 30+ years, and reflects my eclectic, some would say bizarre and undisciplined, background — I've been a community organizer, a public-interest lobbyist, a hip-hop indie record mogul (that's irony, folks) and more recently, a full-time journalist specializing in race, politics, and popular culture. I helped start a magazine I'm very proud of — ColorLines — and a record label I'm very proud of — SoleSides Records, now Quannum Projects. I like the Oakland A's and, in increasing levels of intensity, hate the Red Sox and the Yankees.
