Yiyun Li

I am the author of A Thousand Years of Good Prayers and the winner of the Frank O'Connor International Short Story Award, the Plimpton Prize from The Paris Review, and a Pushcart Prize.

I grew up in Beijing and came to the United States in 1996. I have an MFA from Iowa Writers’ Workshop and an MFA in creative nonfiction writing from the University of Iowa. My stories and essays have been published in The New Yorker, The Paris Review, Zoetrope: All-Story, Ploughshares, The Gettysburg Review, Glimmer Train, Prospect, and elsewhere, and translations have appeared in Sweden and Mexico. Named by The Los Angeles Times as one of the three authors to watch in 2005, I live in Oakland, California with my husband and our two sons, and teach in the MFA program at Mills College.
