Filmmaker Interviews
Natalia Almada
Natalia Almada
Filmmaker Natalia Almada talks about El General, her poetic meditation on history, memory and family. The film brings to life audio recordings she inherited from her grandmother, daughter of Plutarco Elías Calles, a revolutionary general who became Mexico's president in 1924. Natalia explains why Calles was such a controversial figure, how she combined present-day images of Mexico City with those recordings from the past and why she herself doesn't appear in the film.
