In the first clip associated with The English Surgeon lesson plan, Dr. Henry Marsh talks about the first time he went to the Ukraine and saw the poor conditions of the hospitals there. He also met Igor Kurilets, a Ukrainian doctor. The two men decided to work together to improve the care for patients in Ukraine with neurological disorders. Students should use the example of Dr. Marsh to think about their own set of skills, and about their potential as volunteers.
