Providing a glimpse into American life from the point of view of an exchange student, Mai's America tells the story of a high school girl from Hanoi, Vietnam who ends up spending a year in rural Mississippi. Filmmaker Marlo Poras explains what drew her to making a film about a Vietnamese exchange student and how during the making of the film, she was able to watch Mai grow and learn more about herself.
