The Way We Get By premiered on POV last year on Veterans Day. This touching film about a group of elderly troop greeters in Maine was one of our most well received of 2009. Earlier this summer, filmmakers Aron Gaudet and Gita Pullapilly received an Emmy nomination in the outstanding continuing coverage of a news story — long form category.
PBS will be rebroadcasting The Way We Get By on most local stations on Tuesday, August 3 at 10 PM. (Check local listings.)
In this video interview, Aron Gaudet and Gita Pullapilly talk about how they convinced his mother to be the subject of their film, how meeting Bill and Jerry helped them find deeper stories that go beyond troop greeting, and how audiences have responded both to The Way We Get By and to its subjects.
