Growing Hemp on a Native American Reservation (Clip 1 of 1)

In this clip, associated with the Standing Silent Nation lesson plan, the White Plumes, a Native American family, want to grow industrial hemp on their reservation despite the fact that the growing of hemp is banned by U.S. law. Students should discuss whether or not the White Plumes should be allowed to grow hemp, basing their arguments on questions of agricultural and economic sustainability, tribal sovereignty or the war on drugs.
