In the first clip associated with the This Way Up lesson plan, a woman and a storekeeper watch as people sneak over the security barrier in the West Bank. At the end of the clip, Israeli soldiers appear to arrest a man who has just snuck over the barrier. Students should take notes on how the security barrier is affecting the lives of those in the film and discuss whether the wall will lead to greater peace between Israelis and Palestinians when it is completed, or provoke further conflict. The security wall being constructed by Israel on the West Bank has divided Palestinian families and communities. It has also isolated the a nursing home outside of Jerusalem, leaving its residents to face old age in the throes of a bitter conflicts.
