Austin City Limits pilot episode featuring Willie Nelson first aired on PBS across the country in 1976. Since then, the award-winning television series has grown to showcase the best in American music and beyond: contemporary and traditional pop, rock, country, blues, bluegrass, roots and more. The list of artists who have appeared on Austin City Limits is legendary: Ray Charles, Roy Orbison, Garth Brooks, Emmylou Harris, the Judds, Pure Prairie League, Nanci Griffith, Fats Domino, Lyle Lovett, Vince Gill, the Dixie Chicks, John Mayall, B.B. King, Jerry Lee Lewis and much more. This season is no less impressive with a line-up that includes Etta James, Ben Folds, The Killers and many more. Check local listings. October 22: Etta James Music legend Etta James has been wowing critics and fans with a music legacy that has spanned more than 50 years. Hot off the success of her 2004 release, Blues to the Bone, the Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award winner continues to be one of the most respected R&B singers in America. Highlights include "All the Way Down" and "At Last." October 29: Ben Folds followed by Ray LaMontagne Ben Folds takes off on a solo career that builds on the success of his band's hit "Brick." Highlights include songs from his critically-acclaimed new release, Songs For Silverman. Ray LaMontagne, who Rolling Stone called "the backwoods Van Morrison," performs songs from his haunting debut release, Trouble. November 5: The Killers followed by Spoon The Killers have taken their catchy rock out of the indie scene and into the mainstream. Highlights include the hit "Somebody Told Me" and other songs off the band's newest release Hot Fuss. Spoon explores the sound limits of indie-rock while keeping thoughtful lyrics at the forefront. The Austin band performs songs from their newest CD Gimme Fiction. November 12: John Prine followed by Amos Lee It's been almost ten years since the iconic John Prine released a CD of new original songs, but after a battle with cancer he's back in top form. Highlights include songs from his newest CD, Fair & Square, plus a few Prine classics. Amos Lee melds folk and soul into a unique engaging song-poetry that is rooted in American tradition. Lee performs songs from his self-titled debut release. November 19: Franz Ferdinand followed by What Made Milwaukee Famous Austin City Limits presents an hour of world indie-rock with Franz Ferdinand and What Made Milwaukee Famous. With intelligent, danceable pop-rock the Scottish quartet Franz Ferdinand perform song from their sophomore release, You Could Have It So Much Better, plus hits off their self-titled debut release. What Made Milwaukee Famous -- intelligent humor and electronic-fused choruses has swiftly made them one of Austin's hottest bands. They perform songs from their critically-acclaimed debut release, Trying to Never Catch Up. November 26: The Pixies Austin City Limits captures one of the year's biggest rock 'n' roll reunions as legendary alt-rockers The Pixies perform. With vintage fire the band takes the stage to perform their classics filled with brutal noise and impressionistic lyrics. December 3: ENCORE: Robert Randolph & The Family Band Austin City Limits brings the unique sounds of pedal steel guitar phenomenon Robert Randolph & The Family Band to PBS. This group has been getting national attention and gaining fans for their high-energy music that fuses gospel, rock and more. December 10: Lyle Lovett followed by Jamie Cullum Multiple music genres fuse together as crooner Lyle Lovett and pianist Jamie Cullum perform on Austin City Limits. Singer-songwriter Lovett has long mixed elements of jazz, blues and pop into his unique country sound. Cullum, a 24-year-old from England, is working to change contemporary jazz music in the States by infusing the genre with rock and dance sounds. December 24: Michael McDonald followed by Joss Stone It's a night of powerful voices as Austin City Limits presents legendary singer Michael McDonald and up-and-coming soul diva Joss Stone. McDonald cultivated his signature sound with the Doobie Brothers in the 1970s and he continues to wow audiences today. At 17-years-old, British-born Stone with her soulful voice that is beyond her years, is impressing both fans and critics with her powerful songs. December 31: Elvis Costello From rockin' punk to heartbreaking ballads, Elvis Costello's musical diversity runs parallel with that of Austin City Limits. Showcasing his intelligent lyrics and genre-jumping style, Costello and the Imposters perform songs from their newest release, The Delivery Man, plus a few classics.
