-Wynton Marsalis and Friends Join Forces for Jazz at Lincoln Center Holiday Tradition -- An Evening of Original Arrangements of Beloved Holiday Classics -
LIVE FROM LINCOLN CENTER's telecast of "Jazz @ Lincoln Center: Red Hot Holiday Stomp," from Frederick P. Rose Hall, airs Monday, December 10, 2007, 8:00-10:00 p.m. ET on PBS. Jazz at Lincoln Center's artistic director and trumpeter Wynton Marsalis is the host for the annual holiday concert, an evening of joyous music and storytelling. Joining him for this onstage "Wynton Wonderland" are Wycliffe "Pinecone" Gordon, Wess "Warmdaddy" Anderson, Victor Goines, Joe Temperley, "Papa" Don Vappie, Reginald Veal, Dan Nimmer, Herlin Riley and Roberta Gumbel, who will bring Big Easy-style holiday cheer to the Big Apple. Since it began in 1987 as a small concert series, Jazz at Lincoln Center has developed an international audience over the past two decades. The organization is dedicated to inspiring and growing audiences for jazz; under the artistic direction of Wynton Marsalis, Jazz at Lincoln Center produces 1,000 performance and education events annually in addition to its internationally acclaimed Peabody Award-winning radio broadcasts "Jazz at Lincoln Center Radio with Wynton Marsalis" and XM Satellite Radio broadcasts. In 2004, Jazz at Lincoln Center opened the first-ever performing arts and education venues designed for the sound of jazz, which accommodates all art forms. Frederick P. Rose Hall extends the Lincoln Center campus to Columbus Circle in New York City. Jazz musician, trumpeter, composer, bandleader, advocate for the arts and educator Wynton Marsalis has helped propel jazz to the forefront of American culture. His prominent position in American culture was solidified in April 1997, when he became the first jazz artist to be awarded the Pulitzer Prize in music for his work Blood on the Fields, which was commissioned by Jazz at Lincoln Center. He has served as the renowned arts organization's artistic director, as well as music director of the resident big band, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, since its inception. LIVE FROM LINCOLN CENTER, currently in its 32nd broadcast season, has received 12 Emmy Awards and was honored with two 2006 nominations for its broadcasts of "Jazz at Lincoln Center -- Higher Ground Hurricane Relief Benefit Concert" and "A Lincoln Center Special: 30 Years of LIVE FROM LINCOLN CENTER." This series has made the world's greatest artists on Lincoln Center's renowned stages accessible to home viewers in virtually every corner of the United States and remains the only series of live telecast performances on American television today.
