Best Practices for PBS Member Station Websites

We Need Your Feedback: BETA Release of Online Best Practices for Member Stations

Updated Best Bractices Wiki: http://projects.pbs.org/confluence/display/bestpractices/Home

We've updated the Best Practices Guide for Member Station sites with information and recommendations for stations to use as they undergo web site redesigns and online growth. During this BETA phase, the guide provides several tips and suggestions about ways stations can be empowered to build better online experiences with fewer resources.

Feedback from stations across the system will be vital to the guide’s usefulness as its content continues to evolve and grow. The new Best Practices are presented the in a wiki-style format (a print version is also available) so that they may more easily adapt to changing station needs. Please visit the wiki-site today and share your own online best practices tips with the rest of the system!

PHP Site Templates

As part of the BETA release of Best Practices guide, PBS has also making PHP-based site templates available that can be used by member stations interested in redesigning their web sites. The templates can be customized through the use of CSS and include graphics that showcase the latest PBS branding package. Please note: these templates should not be used unless you are already familiar with PHP and CSS.

If you use these templates, please let us know how you used them and what you think! Like the Best Practices documents, your feedback will help us make improvements and inform future products.

If you have any feedback about the usefulness of the new Best Practices guide or the PHP templates, please contact the SPI team directly at PBSi_StationServices@pbs.
