He arrived in San Francisco sometime in 1910-1911, and proceeded to work in the
usual laboring jobs open to Punjabis at the time. Around 1915, he
opened his own store in Imperial, and operated it until World War
I began. Sant Ram registered to serve and while waiting to be called,
sold his store. Unfortunately, the war ended.
