PBS Fulfills Its Mission by Addressing
Societal Issues
In a follow-up to asking people to assess the importance of various
issues relevant to an informed American society, the survey then
asked how well PBS programs addresses these issues.
A strong majority of Americans rate PBS positively on all of the
issues asked about in the survey.  At the top of the list is the job PBS
does providing people access to arts and culture (83%, with 55%
saying “very well”) and promoting an understanding of American
history (83%, with 50% saying “very well”). On all seven items asked
about in the survey, from improving literacy to informing people about
important political and social issues, PBS programs received positive
marks from more than seven in ten Americans.
