Christopher
Reeve talks candidly with Alan about his hope to walk
again. |
Moviegoers
everywhere were shocked when former Superman actor Christopher
Reeve injured his spinal cord in a 1995 horseback riding accident.
The injury left Reeve without the use of his arms or legs
and dependant on a ventilator to breathe.
In
"I Might Walk!", Reeve talks with Alan Alda about his life
after paralysis and about his newest role as a spinal cord
injury research advocate. Reeve works out two to three hours
a day on specialized equipment, preventing his bones and muscles
and systems from atrophying. But as he explains to Alan, he
is also keeping his body primed and ready should science one
day discover the cure for his paralysis.

Reeve
wants all paralysis patients to have access to the same equipment
and specialists he does. As he points out, he has become president
of a club he never wanted to join. A tireless advocate, Reeve
lobbied Congress and established the Christopher Reeve Paralysis
Foundation to help fund and coordinate cutting-edge research
in Spinal Cord Injury. He continues to act and direct, and
to help his wife raise their young son. Says Reeve, "I have
to find ways to give him what he needs. He's got to hear it
through my voice and through my eyes. You have to find a way
to be more generous than you ever were before, when you were
on your feet."
