A Rich Future

"Only 30 per cent of our residents are over 65,"
says Johnson. "They need something to do besides play bingo."

Now that the Yerkes program has been under way for more than a year, Megna emphasizes that it practically runs itself, fueled by the enthusiasm of all who hear of it. Johnson, now at the Gwinnett Extended Care Center has started up the program there. Her successor at Medical Arts, Chris Wren, plans to maintain and expand the program, and other residence homes, such as the Annandale Village for the mentally challenged, have joined in. With so many volunteers, the program could provide treats for all of the animals at Yerkes, not just the ones at the field station.

Phot o of Primate

"That would be a dream come true for me if we could address the animals that live over there," says Megna referring to the main Yerkes lab. "It would be great to benefit those animals that are working even harder in the name of science."
