The
Internet offers an incredible variety of innovative sites
about genetics. Here are a few of our favorites. For links
more specifically related to each segment in this show, be
sure to visit our Resources
section. Have fun exploring!

The
Dolan DNA Learning Center
This site produced by the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory
offers a fantastic array of games, animated illustrations
and learning tools. A must see! Check out these sites:
Genetic
Science Learning Center
Excellent information produced by the University of Utah
and the Utah Museum of Natural History on:
as well as the following activities:

The
Why Files:
This site offers a fun, kid-friendly approach to science.
Here's just a few of their genetics-based offerings:

Life:
A Study of Genetics and Molecular Biology
A site developed by students for students. Learn the nuts
and bolts of genetics, atoms, molecules, DNA, chromosomes,
cell division, and Mendelism. Meet the leaders in the field
and play games like:
- Bloody
Madness! - As the doctor in charge of the ER,
you must provide your patients with the right types of
blood for transfusion. Match donors with recipients before
time runs out or there will be fatal consequences!
- Punnet
Squares & Pea Crosses - This demonstration lets
you cross pea plants Gregor Mendel style and produce offspring
that exhibit a variety of traits. Simply pick the genotypes
of the parents and the simulation will generate a punnet
square for you to display the results of the cross.
- Transcription
Demonstration
- Using the given DNA base sequence, can you decode the
genetic data to make an amino acid chain?
- Linkage
Maps - Given recombinance frequencies between
genes on a chromosome, create a linkage map. This demonstration
makes a fun logic game!
