Jeffrey
M. Isner, M.D. is a professor at Tufts University School
of Medicine and Chief of Vascular Medicine and Chief
of Cardiovascular Research at St. Elizabeth's Medical
Center in Boston. After Dr. Isner received his M.D.
from Tufts University School of Medicine, he joined
the Pathology Branch at the National Heart, Lung and
Blood Institute before establishing the Cardiovascular
Research Laboratories at St. Elizabeth's.
In
1994, Isner's team performed the first human cardiovascular
arterial gene transfer. Subsequently, Isner's group
has initiated human gene therapy trials for other forms
of vascular disease.
Isner is the recipient of a number of prestigious awards
for his work, including the Outstanding Faculty Achievement
Award from Tufts University in 1996 and the MERIT Award
from the NIH in 2000.
Isner
is a Fellow of the American Society for Clinical Investigation,
the American College of Cardiology, and the Councils
on Clinical Cardiology and Atherosclerosis of the American
Heart Association. He is on the editorial boards of
a number of peer-reviewed journals and currently serves
on the Steering Committee of the NIH National Gene Vector
Laboratories.
