Meditation 101

In “Just Relax,” psychologist Sara Lazar peeks into the brain of a woman as she meditates, shedding light on how meditation reduces stress. The ancient eastern arts of yoga and meditation are increasingly popular here in the United States where “I’m so stressed out,” is a familiar refrain in schools and offices across the country. But, like cell phones and cappuccinos, feeling “stressed out” is a 20th Century phenomenon. How did we get here? What do we do to feel better?
