Photo of Kurt Konolige KURT KONOLIGE

Kurt Konolige may be familiar to Frontiers viewers, who first met him and his robot Flakey on a show that aired several seasons ago. In this episode, we catch up with Konolige's latest endeavors as he takes first place in the fifth annual robotics contest sponsored by the American Association of Artificial Intelligence.

At SRI International in Menlo Park, California, Konolige has been working on several projects recently, including smaller robots with most of Flakey's capabilities (but easier to transport than the 300-pound Flakey), robot control software and a stand-alone vision system for realtime stereo and motion processing.
