ANTONIO TELESCA
As a regional director of ANCON, the leading Panamanian conservation group, Antonio Telesca oversees environmental experiments that introduce innovative conservation ideas to the region. ANCON's goal is to protect the rain forest and the Panama Canal's vital watershed.
Because slash-and-burn agriculture threatens the watershed, ANCON helps local farmers find ways to use the rain forest rather than cut it down. Projects include raising pacas (the mammal made into soup on Expedition Panama), growing edible nuts and reforesting areas of grasslands. These new agricultural practices may help safeguard the future of the Panama Canal. |
