ANTHONY COATES
Tony Coates is Deputy Director of the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) and an expert on the geology of Tropical America. At STRI he works with the Panama Paleontology Project (PPP), a cooperative effort involving 25 scientists that continues to unravel the geological history of the rise and closure of the Panamanian isthmus and its ecological and evolutionary consequences during the last 10 million years.
Coates has co-edited a book that details the first phase of PPP's research: Evolution and Environment in Tropical American (University of Chicago Press). For more about Coates and the Panama Palentology Project, visit the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute. |
