Clement Imbert, Ph.D., is Associate Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the University of the West Indies (UWI). He graduated with a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from UWI, an M.Sc.Tech in Metallurgy from Brunel University of West London, England, and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Metallurgy from UWI in a cooperative program with Concordia University in Montreal, Canada.

Dr. Imbert has been involved in steel pan research since the 1970s, has supervised several student projects in the area and has published several reports and articles on the steel pan. He was responsible for a research project which involved the successful commissioning of a locally designed, experimental steel pan press and field testing of the mechanically (hyroformed) steel pans as well as pilot production of completed formed pans (including the notes) by a commercial press from Saab of Sweden. He has also demonstrated the pressing of small pans using another method, i.e., rubber pad forming. At present, Dr. Imbert is Assistant Manager of Birdsong Steel Orchestra.
