The Frontiers Decade:
Letter to Educators

Dear Educator,

With this 10th anniversary season, GTE concludes its funding of the Scientific American Frontiers TV series and school outreach program. It has been our great pleasure to bring you Scientific American Frontiers for the past 10 years. Throughout this time, tens of thousands of educators and millions of students across America have counted on Frontiers for stimulating TV, innovative teaching ideas and interactive classroom activities designed to excite students' interest in science.

Thank you for being our partner in this decade-long adventure!

We are proud of our long-term sponsorship of this award-winning program, which is part of a 14-year GTE underwriting commitment to science programming on PBS. Most importantly, we are proud and pleased to have provided American teachers with a wealth of free curriculum resources that you can continue to use well into the future.

As you know, GTE has granted off-air taping rights in perpetuity for classroom use of all the Scientific American Frontiers PBS TV specials that we have sponsored -- 50 all together -- and we hope you will continue to make use of your videotaped copies, along with your teaching guides, for many years to come. For your reference, this special 10th anniversary online teaching guide includes a complete listing of every Frontiers special ever produced.

Resources to support this wealth of Frontiers programming will remain available on PBS Online at http://dipsy.pbs.org/safarchive/. We invite and encourage you to visit the online archives to find teaching guides, as well as fascinating Q&A with many of the scientists featured in the shows. In addition, each show we have sponsored is available for PBS broadcast for three years after its premiere, so please look for re-runs in your local market, or call your local public television station to find out when Frontiers will air again.

GTE remains committed to fostering excellence in education, especially in the areas of science, math and literacy. We invite you to learn about our many philanthropic initiatives in these areas by visiting our website at http://www.gte.com/AboutGTE/Community/index.html.

We hope you enjoy this special "best of" 10th anniversary edition of Scientific American Frontiers. We salute and thank you for the work you do every day to make science come alive for your students.

Sincerely,
Maureen V. Gorman
