Lisa Harris, M.D. Primary Care Physician, Internal Medicine and Pediatrics Diagnosed with Metabolic Syndrome

Lisa Harris, M.D. was born in Oneida, New York, the eldest child and only daughter of the honorable Judge Roy and Mrs. Lucille King. Dr. Harris attended Monroe Jr. Sr. High School and then furthered her education at the University of Rochester, where she received a B.S. in neurosciences. Later, she attended Morehouse School of Medicine where she received her medical degree. Her training was completed at the Detroit Medical Center in Detroit, MI. Dr. Harris is boarded in two specialties, Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, allowing her to care for both the adult and pediatric populations. Currently, Dr. Harris is in private practice.

Donald McAlpine, M.D. Psychiatrist, Director of Eating Disorder services at Mayo Clinic
Dr. McAlpine obtained his MD from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis in 1979 and did his Psychiatry Residency at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Rochester, MN and then went on staff there in the Department of Psychiatry and Psychology in 1983. He is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry on the Faculty of the Mayo Medical School and Mayo Graduate School of Education. He has over 20 years of clinical experience with eating disorders and has been the director of the Eating Disorder Services since 1988. Scholarly writing includes contributions to the International Journal of Eating Disorders on treatment practices for Bulimia Nervosa, the American Journal of Gastroenterology on Anorexia Nervosa, the Bockus: Gastroenterology textbook, Mayo Clinic Women's Healthsource on Eating Disorders at Mid Life among others. He has reviewed articles on eating disorders for the American Journal of Psychiatry. Current research interests include athletics and eating disorders, non-exercise thermogenesis and anorexia nervosa and bariatric surgery. Other areas of research interests include psychogenomics and drug metabolism, transcranial magnetic stimulation for depression and pain, somatoform disorders. The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology has certified Dr. McAlpine in Psychiatry and he has Added Qualifications in Addictions Psychiatry and in Geriatric Psychiatry.

Dr. Powers is Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine, Health Sciences at the College of Medicine at the University of South Florida. She is nationally recognized as an expert in the field of eating disorders. She was the Founding President of the Academy for Eating Disorders and a member of the American Psychiatric Association committee preparing guidelines for the treatment of Eating Disorders. She is currently the President for the National Eating Disorders Association for 2005-06. Elissa L. Orlando is a 20-year veteran of public affairs programming and multimedia storytelling. Orlando is director of national programming and special projects at WXXI Public Broadcasting. She was producer of the nationally televised Crucible of Freedom companion program to Ken Burns Not for Ourselves Alone. Orlando has won several New York State broadcasting awards for television news reporting in Somalia Africa, Homestead Florida and other local and national venues. She is a recipient of the Gracie award for television programming from American Women in Radio and Television, and she is the recipient of a Telly award for her production of the TV documentary Reclaiming the Crescent. Orlando also received the Woman of the Distinction award from the Jefferson County Women's Conference in 1995. She was formerly TV news and public affairs director at WXXI, where she also served as executive producer, Website editor and news anchor of Need to Know, WXXI's Emmy Award-winning newsmagazine.
