Frequently Asked Questions

Some of the videos look better than others.  Am I not setting something correctly?

Over time, we will try to make all of our content available at the highest quality we can.  Some of the video sources we have now are coming from our Web site, or other digital archives, which are not as high quality as the iPad and iPhone are able to display.  We’ve already begun re-encoding archival videos.

Sometimes I hear just the audio and the video is not showing. Is something wrong?

Our videos are created with multiple versions at different quality levels. Depending on the quality of the data connection your device has at the moment, a different version of the video is selected. When the data connection is very low, you can still enjoy the audio only version and the video will not be shown. When your connection improves, so will the video.

Is there an Android version of the PBS Mobile apps?

We are working on our plans for the next set of mobile offerings and prioritizing what we can offer next.  Please feel free to let us know this is an important platform for you.

Can I watch these videos from the web site without using on of these mobile web apps?

Our web site video experience was designed for a desktop web browser, with the Adobe Flash player installed. Some mobile devices like those running the Android v2.2 operation system are able to install Adobe Flash and can view videos directly from the web site. Most mobile devices are unable to install the required Flash player in their mobile browsers.
