May: An Act of Parliament to "Restrain the Abuses of Players" (i.e. curb profanity in the theatre) becomes law. As the exact definition of profanity – usually irreverent and blasphemous language – isn't given in the Act, theatre companies are forced to censor themselves or face fines.
