Shakespeare's non-theatre related interests have begun to dominate. He is a landowner now, but he also seems to be taking on some private commissions. In one such instance he designs a shield and motto for a wealthy client as well as providing some lines of verse for a pageant. Employing a poet to trumpet your splendor in verse is becoming all the rage in an England scrambling to adopt the high culture of Renaissance Europe.
