"Edward II" turns out to be less engaging than you'd hoped. It's a good
enough play, but a wimp of king doesn't really do it for the common man.
They love heroes, they love to hate good villains, but incompetent
leaders are not so hot.
The play does gain some attention. There's a few people in
authority who don't look quite so kindly on writers who make
subversive comparisons between today's government and the corruption and
mismanagement of Edward II's rule. The censor can't actually find
anything to cut, but you are now being watched.
The whole history theme seems to be a bit of a rocky path. Maybe it's time to explore some
less subversive ideas.
