The Works
William Shakespeare was staggeringly prolific; during his career he probably wrote more than 40 plays. The complete text of 38 of these have survived to the present day. They are presented here with the shortest synopses imaginable, approximate modern-day ratings, fictional quotes, and the posters that Elizabethan theatre owners would have made if they'd had access to modern print technology. We also have 25 exclusive video clips of the Royal Shakespeare Company in action. We have used the very latest evidence for the dating of the plays, much of which has been published since 2000. Many dates have been proposed for his plays but we think that those adopted here are the most likely based on present knowledge. The exact dates and order of his early plays remain a mystery.
