       Waimaori. A striking
portrait of a woman of whose history we have no record. In this portrait,
she appears to be in mourning with cropped hair and black ribbon earrings.
Her chin and lip moko is a good example of the revival in womens
tattoo that took place around 1875. Original albumen photograph mounted
on board, photographer, unknown. Circa 1870s. Collection of Mark and
        Carolyn Blackburn.
