SFC Meridith Howard

Sergeant First Class Meridith Howard is thought to be the oldest female soldier to die in combat. She was killed by a suicide bomber along with her friend and fellow soldier, SSG Robert Paul, on 8 Sep 2006 in Kabul, Afghanistan. They died serving their country and aiding the people of Afghanistan. All of us who knew Meridith still miss her greatly. Meridith was a member of the Provincial Reconstruction Team at Mehtar Lam, Afghanistan. Coincidently, I also deployed to FOB Mehtar Lam with the next PRT. It was my privilege to call her my friend. To her husband, Hugh, we have not forgotten.

Kenny Schall

My heart goes out to my sister, Terri Schall, and her family on this Memorial Day. Her son, Sgt. Kenny Schall, of the U.S. Army, gave his life for our country in Irag in May of 2005. Kenny was a loving son, brother and nephew. His memorial service was held on Memorial Day in 2005 and he was laid to rest in Arlington. We all miss him so much and are so proud of what he thought of this great country when he decided to serve.

Love,

Chris, Vikki, Nathan and Amanda

SSG Terry Prater, SSG David Kuehl

Our dear friends SSG Terry Prater was killed in action on 3/15/07. He left behind his wife Amy, son Bryson, and daughter Madisen. SSG David Kuehl was killed in action on 5/22/07 he leaves behind his wife Amy, and daughters Messa and Kiley. I just wanted to honor them it's been two years since each of their deaths but I will never stop honoring them and would love for people to know their names. These men and their families have given the ulitmate sacrifice and have to live each day without their loved ones, so I would just like to let them know they are never forgotten, we think of them at least once a day, to us it is memorial day everyday. We love and miss you guys

Fallen but not forgotton

In memory of Sgt. Gary M Henry, my grandchildren (Shelby Henry 15yrs)(Gavin Henry 12yrs) Father.Gary was also a Indianapolis Firefighter (Captain) as well as a devoted Sgt with the Indiana National Guard. Gary lost his life on August 4th, 2008 in Iraq, this date will forever be with my grandchildren, only time can erase some pain for them, but they will never forget their Daddy! That day my grandchildren were informed of their Fathers death by their Mother, is a day I personally will never forget, Shelby and Gavin were at my home on that day, and were told in my living room, I can see the changes in my grandchildrens eyes, their emotions. Gary was loved so deeply by alot of people in his 34 yrs of life. I can not change what has happened, I can only be their for Shelby,Gavin. Garys death has also changed my daughter (Holly) which is the mother of Shelby,Gavin. Gavin is more reserved, for my grandchildren to endure such extreme pain and I am not able to keep them from hurting, these two children are my Heros and of course all who have served and most of all Gary Henry, you will always be missed and never forgotten. Love me!

SSG Charles Robert Browning, USA

Charlie and I worked together as Corrections Officers in Arizona. I remember our first conversation: "Y'know Jeznach - nobody really knows what selfless service is anymore." I was taken aback, because most people in my Generation (Gen X) don't think about selfless service, to say nothing about giving selfless service. I agreed with him, and we became fast friends. We worked together for 2 years while he also served as a National Guardsman. Charlie was always so proud when those drill weekends came.

I found out Charlie was killed on June 1, 2007 in Mehtar Lam, Afghanistan. Our buddy Doug called me to let me know, because his mom had read it to him over the phone long distance in the Arizona Daily Star. It was like a 2x4 had been shoved through me.

I will never forget you Charlie Browning! Your sacrifice will always be remembered, and I hope to see you again one day.

T.J.

my brother in arms

ssg. David Bullard was a great leader and a good man he lost his life fighting for what he believed. On october 30, 2007 during a road clearance his platoon came under attack and they where force to returned fire, he told his team to get back inside their hummvee. as he returned fire to the enemy he got wounded and keep firing back making sure his soldiers where inside the vehicle. He try to get to the vehicle but a rocket launcher hit him and he died on impact. while this was going on i was in another mission in another location where one of our buddys spc. Romano had being shot by the enemy and had to be evacuted this happen on october 26. On november 5 we got back to our camp and we where very happy because our buddy Romano was going to make it and he was okay to our surprise as we pulling into our camp SFC Brook came to greet us but his eyes where red and he look like something bother him so as we all got together next to him he deliver the bad news. I start crying and everyone else too but to me it was hard to understand because i never tought this will happen to any of us but it did so i told my self that i will honor his name and visit his grave so i can talk to him. well he is and always be my brother and i will visit him forever. so please remember him because he was a good man and his memory stay with me inside my heart love you buddy always Solo.

There is not a day that passes that I don't miss you and think of you with pride and admiration. Even though your time with your family and on this earth was short, you lived and served with the greatest of perseverance, self-respect and love of your country. I will always miss you and take comfort only from the knowledge you are now truly in a place of absolute peace. Rest gently my son and know your father loves you.

My True Love and Hero

My True Love and Hero

Jonathan Williams Bowling was killed in Al Anbar Province on January 26th, 2005. Jonathan and I met on March 3rd of 2004 and our relationship was one of those relationships that some people search for their entire lives. I was very lucky to find a man that was everything I had hoped for my entire life. Jon treated me and protected me like I was a prized possession. Jon was very handsome, sensitive, compassionate, romantic, he was one to take care of and protect not only me but others as well, he would volunteer his services if someone was in need of help, he was my definition of My True Love and Hero. My father and brother introduced the two of us. From the moment that Jon and I met we were inseperable. In May we were sitting on the couch at his mother's house and we received the phone call that his Marine Unit had been activated and they would be deploying to Iraq in August. Throughout June, July, and August he had to spend some time in Lynchburg and California. I traveled to Lynchburg and stayed with him for a while and when he was in California he called to tell me they were going to be getting leave time to have visitors or come home. Jon chose to come home because he loved the mountains. Jon and I spent time together in Gatlinburg, Tennessee and came home and spent time with family. I carried Jon to the airport for him to return to California days before he left for Iraq. The day that he flew to Iraq I began writing him letters and I wrote him a letter everyday until I fell ill at the end of December. Jon made it a point to phone me everyday while I was sick. I had been home from the hospital for one week and it was my birthday and he called me that morning to tell me to check my email, he said he would try to call me later in the evening, and we both said I love you. I checked my email immediately and he had written that he knew that I said I wish I could see him so he decided to send me a picture. The picture was a of himself holding a sign that he had made that said "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" and had hearts in all four corners. That was the last time we spoke and that is the last picture that was taken of Jon. I lost my Jon on my 26th birthday in January of 2005. The marines came to my house the next day to inform me of the heartbreaking news. I miss Jon so much and my life has taken a much different course than I was planning when he was here. I don't expect to ever find a love that will come close to what Jon and I had and if I don't it will be okay because the love that Jon and I shared was a love that will last me a lifetime. I have found that doing things for other people and volunteering my time for charitable events is what helps me with the healing process. I know that Jon would want me to help others like he had always done. I feel honored to have been the love of such a great man who gave the ultimate sacrifice. I think of Jon everyday and often dream of him at night. He is and will always be my True Love and Hero. God Bless all of the men and women who have served and currently serve our country.

"Our Fallen Comrades"

From: Sergeant First Class Tiffani Dee Atkins-Maynor
Location: Arizona

During Operation Iraqi Freedom 05-07, I was assigned in Tikrit Iraq augmented to serve with the 101st Airborne Division. As a Staff Sergeant at the time, serving in Iraq was a little bit overwhelming for me. I was given many responsibilities and most of those responsibilities were implied because of the pride I had instilled in carrying out the mission and diligently taking the time to ensure the welfare of the Soldiers serving under me were met. I enjoyed the comradery, the professional relationship, and the trust that I had attributed during the time I served with the "Screaming Eagles".

I had the privilege of mentoring a lot of young female Soldiers who were assigned to the Division at the time. One of those Soldiers, SGT Amanda Nicole Pinson, whom I had the pleasure to get to know and mentored, died in action from enemy indirect fire on March 16, 2006. Alongside Amanda was another comrade, SPC Carlos M. Gonzalez whom I met once through one of my Soldiers prior to that tragic day, was also killed. It's been almost three years since I had returned from the war in Iraq and March 16, 2006 I will never forget.

SGT Pinson is survived by her Father, Tony Pinson; Stepmother, Regina Pinson; Mother, Christina Ehlen; Brother, Brian Pinson. Every year on the anniversary of SGT Pinson's death, I make a trip to her hometown of St. Louis MO., to pay tribute to her memorial and see her family. I had been angry for awhile wondering, why someone so precious, with such a glowing smile, and so beautiful had such a shortened life.

God Bless all the Armed Forces men and women whom have served their country. May God Bless the wounded warriors who are experiencing pain physically and emotionally. God, take care of SGT Amanda Pinson, SPC Carlos Gonzalez, and the families of all of our fallen heroes from the wars of the past, present, from Afghanistan and Iraq.

"In Loving Memory"
Dedicated To the Fallen Angel on this Day of 24 March 2009,

SGT Amanada Nicole Pinson: July 31, 1984-March 16, 2006

Tim's CH-46E Sea Knight went down in Shatt Al Hillah Canal, Al Hillah, Iraq on May 19th, 2003. I wish any of you that read this could have met him - you would have liked him. We miss him...every day. If you see a service man or woman, give them a hug and sincere thanks - they need to hear it. Then need to know we LOVE them with all our hearts. They need to know we miss them and keep a candle burning for them until they return. But most of all, they need to know we support them and believe in them and will help them in any way we can when needed.

Eulogy to my son

I lost my son Sgt Blake A Harris on March 5 2007 in Iraq. He was on his second deployment. He was in the Army serving under the 1st Cav out of Ft. Texas. He was my only child. My heart was broken on that day and will never be the same. I was a single mom raising my son since he was three yrs old. We had a close bond. He was only 22 yrs old when he was taken away so suddenly. He gave the best years of my life and some of the best memories I will always cherish. He left behind a wife Joanna and a son Jonah now 4 1/2 yrs old. Until we meet again may God hold you in the palm of his hand. Sincerley, Deborah Harris Gold Star Mom-Pueblo Co
