Question of the Day: PBS Homepage Feature

In an effort to make this blog a bit more active, we've begun a question of the day feature where we will post and respond to a frequently asked question from the system.  Please let us know what you think!

Q: Is the dynamic lead/slide show thing on the PBS homepage a module that we could customize for our station's homepage?

Dynamic Lead.JPGA:  A few other stations have expressed interest in a dynamic lead module and we investigated the possibility of boxing up the code; however it is so entwined with the custom CMS controlling that page that an easy way to share it has not yet presented itself.

Work is underway on a more substantive redesign of pbs.org, so our dynamic lead will be replaced with something different in the next few months. Stay tuned for more information on the redesign, which will provide new options for exposing local content and driving traffic back to local sites.

We want your feedback on what kind of tools stations would find useful.
  • Are you interested in a module that automatically updates with promotional images and links to national content similar to the feature on the current PBS homepage?
  • Would you be more interested in some sort of template you could feed local content in to?
  • Do you really want both?
Let us know!
