Candidate Support Provider Online Course

Course Description:

The Candidate Support Provider (CSP) Online Course is designed to provide new and experienced candidate support providers with the practical knowledge, skills, and tools needed to successfully support teacher candidates during their National Board Certification® process.
This course spans a six week period with a total estimated completion time of 30 hours. After completing this course, you will be able to:

• Explain the fundamentals of candidate support including the Architecture of Accomplished Teaching, the roles and responsibilities of CSPs, and the different types of candidate support.
• Interpret and apply NBPTS guidelines that ensure ethical candidate support.
• Explain the processes used for scoring portfolio entries and assessment center exercises and apply these scoring policies when supporting retake candidates.
• Apply adult learning principles, use effective communication skills, and set biases aside when working with candidates.
• Prepare yourself to review portfolio entries by collecting and reviewing background resources such as the NBPTS Standards, portfolio instructions, and scoring guide.
• Review portfolio entries, locate elements of evidence, and provide meaningful feedback to candidates to help them deepen their level of thinking about their teaching practices.

The content in this course has been designed specifically for public and private school personnel and those in higher education, professional associations, and other education organizations who wish to support candidates in the process of certification by NBPTS. The primary target audience is comprised of National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs). However, this course has been designed to also benefit non-NBCTs who are unfamiliar with the certification process and other educators, such as professional development staff.

This course is available on an individual basis to anyone with Internet access. Additionally, groups, such as a school district or university, can coordinate a private offering of this course for their specific audience. Each offering of the CSP Online Course can accommodate a minimum of 12 participants and a maximum of 25 participants.

The only individuals who cannot attend this course are those who are currently in the process of completing National Board Certification, including those who have completed the Certification process but are waiting for results

By completing this CSP Online Course, you will earn the same certificate of completion as the 2-day CSP classroom training. The course goals, learning objectives, target audience, and course content is the same as the face-to-face training, so now you can take the course either face-to-face or online.

For assignments and evaluation details, see the full Syllabus.

The number of hours identified for each course reflects time spent online, but does not reflect the total time spent completing offline coursework and assignments. All learners are different and you will likely spend double the indicated number of hours completing all coursework depending on your learning style and work habits.
