Developing Mathematical Problem Solving Skills (Grades K-2)

Course Section Description:

Discover the role that problem solving plays in your teaching and in students' learning while also investigating the importance of connecting mathematical instruction to everyday experiences. Increase familiarity with and understanding of the NCTM (National Council of Teachers of Mathematics) process standards of problem solving and connections. Investigate how to help students build new mathematical knowledge through problem solving, apply and adapt a variety of appropriate strategies to solve problems, and learn how problem solving is connected to the world around them. Learn how to assess your own formal and informal problem solving strategies. Through Annenberg Learner videos, interactive activities, and problem solving, explore content and activities to help teach students how to organize and consolidate their mathematical thinking through the development of problem solving skills connected to real-life problem situations.

Note: This is a self-paced course accessible for one year after enrollment, and not eligible for graduate credit.
